Cartoon Characters from Haarlem

Explanation: Haarlem draws unique attention to the city during the 2025 parade. This year Haarlem’s float is dedicated to the strip cartoonists and their rich history in the city. With iconic figures such as Else, Vos and Haas, as well as Fokke & Sukke, Haarlem’s float honours the unique character of the strip cartoon culture.The centrepiece on the float is a large colourful sculpture of the strip cartoon characters. The front float brings an ode to Jopo de Pojo, the famous character from Haarlem cartoonist Joost Swarte. This part of the float emphasises the importance of Haarlem as a home base for cartoonists and fans.

Many residents and visitors are probably not aware of the fact that some of the most iconic cartoons originated in Haarlem.
